Marley Floors – Constructed of Four Layers

Looks can be deceiving.  Marley Dance Floors, on the surface, look like a sheet of heavy duty vinyl.  In contrast, there is a lot more than meets the eye.

First, dancers prefer floors that can absorb some shock, but which also “give back” some of the energy that is focused on the floor.  Most importantly, to be durable, flexible and stable, Marley Floors are made up of at least four separate layers.  So, here are the four layers.

The Marley Dance Floor – Layers 1, 2, 3, 4

1) First of all, there is a thin top “wear” layer, normally transparent provides traction for shoes and bare feet.  That includes protection from ultra violet rays so that it won’t break down when exposed to sunlight for extended periods of time.

2) Second, there is a vinyl layer that supports the top layer, gives the flooring durability and provides the color element.

3) Third, there is a woven fiber layer that keeps the floor elastic.  The fiber layer hold its shape when exposed to the heavy pressure of many feet and shoes.

4) Fourth, and finally, there is a bottom layer, usually some sort of foam, that provides some softness and springiness.

Marley Floors – The Dance Floor

All Marley Dance Floors  “spring” a little, but not too much.  Because of this, dancers on Marley Dance Floors move and jump using less energy and with less chance for injury.
