Dance Craze – Gangnam Style
For as long as people have been dancing, there have been dance crazes. Some, like the waltz, stick around and become classics. Others, thankfully, fade away into oblivion (can you say Achy Breaky Heart?). The explosion of the internet has made it possible for these dance crazes to go world wide in the blink of an eye. The latest dance craze that is sweeping the globe is from South Korea of all places.
Rapper Psy’s “Gangnam Style” has become the latest sensation. From popular groups like LMFAO to parents taping their kids dancing around the living room, YouTube is bursting with videos of everyone strutting their Gangnam steps. Four couples from Dancing With The Stars teamed up to put their spin on this lively number. The judges, while not too impressed with the technical aspect of the dance, loved the performance for the fun factor.
While retired football great Emmit Smith was hamming it up on the DWTS dance floor, some current NFL players are celebrating their on-field accomplishments Gangnam style. Mike Tolbert of the Carolina Panthers had a Gangnam Style victory dance in the end zone after scoring a touchdown. Jason Pierre-Paul of the New York Giants was so excited about sacking Washington Redskins quarterback, RGIII, he was riding the pony too.
I am glad I am not scheduled to attend a wedding this year. I am sure it will be a requirement at every wedding reception until this fades away. Although from a people watching perspective, it must be solid gold. Time for all prospective bridal party members to go find a dance studio so they don’t totally embarrass themselves out on the dance floor! Will your studio be going Gangnam Style?
